A roof structure and advertising boards collapsed on fans at the Colo-Colo Monumental stadium in Santiago, Chile, on Friday September 30th. According to Chilean newspaper La Tercera, the weight of fans on the site caused the collapse.

The fans turned up en masse to the open training session to support the team (the so-called "arengazo") because Colo-Colo can be Chilean champions this Sunday in the derby against Universidad Catolica.

Eight people were injured, two with fractures, according to local media.

After the structure of the Cordillera stand collapsed, the team's training session was suspended and the team immediately went to the locker room.

Around 8,000 fans were present at the stadium.

In 1993, a similar incident occurred in the same stand when Real Madrid were visiting Santiago. The roof collapsed killing one person and injuring 77.
