Juventus picked up their fourth straight Serie A win with a 2-0 victory against big rivals Inter Milan in Turin - a result that lifts them up to fifth place in the table.

After a spirited performance ended in defeat to Paris Saint-Germain in midweek, there was renewed sense of optimism in Turn that the Bianconeri could reignite their faltering season.

That hope didn’t last long though as the Nerazzurri dominated the first half, with Simone Inzaghi frustrated by his side’s lack of cutting edge in the final third.

Lautaro Martinez flashed wide inside the opening five minutes, before the Argentina international’s flicked header found Edin Dzeko, but he somehow failed to hit the target from inside the six yard box.

Inter’s best chance fell to Denzel Dumfries on the stroke of the break after he was found by Nicolo Barella inside the area, but the Dutchman couldn’t keep his effort down at full stretch.

There were groans around the Allianz Stadium, with the home faithful clearly unhappy at the low tempo set by Juventus. There appeared to be little change to the game’s flow after the break, with Hakan Calhanoglu only denied a spectacular opener by a combination of Wojciech Szczesny’s fingertips and the bar.

Massimiliano Allegri’s men were hanging on but their resilience would be rewarded as a devastating counter attack gave the Old Lady the lead.

Filip Kostic drove down the left before finding Adrien Rabiot in the box, and the Frenchman opened his foot up and provided a glorious first-time finish into the far corner.

Inter were stunned by the goal and were handed a controversial reprieve on the hour mark.

Danilo thought he had swept home Juventus’ second after meeting Kostic’s corner, but the Brazilian was denied after a lengthy VAR review ruled he had handled the ball.

Martinez looked to take full advantage of this escape at the other end as he was played in on goal, but his low driven effort was brilliantly denied by Szczesny.

The game had now opened up with chances at both ends. Andre Onana was called into action to keep Inter in the match, denying Kostic’s powerful effort.

Juventus’ defence held firm and set the platform for a devastating counter to put the game beyond reach. Kostic the architect once more, as he fed Nicolo Fagioli, who capped his first Serie A start with a fine finish.

The Old Lady have now won four straight league games without conceding, while Inter’s hopes of regaining the Scudetto appear all-but-over, trailing leaders Napoli by 11 points after their fifth defeat of the season already.
