Ronnie O’Sullivan (47) is set to defend his Snooker World Championship title at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield from 15 April 2023, but who else is in the frame? Here’s everything you need to know about the tournament as the world’s greatest snooker players compete for the sport’s biggest prize.

Who is competing at the 2023 Snooker World Championship tournament?

O’Sullivan is currently world number 1 but the Englishman faces stiff competition from Wales' Mark Williams (48), Northern Ireland's Mark Allen (37), England's Mark Selby (39) and Scotland's John Higgins (47) if he wants to defend his crown this year.

Judd Trump (33) won the tournament in 2019 and although he lost to 'The Rocket' last year, the world number five will once again be expected to battle for top honours.

They are among the top 16 players who have already booked their place at the 2023 tournament and will be seeded in the draw.

They will be joined by Neil Robertson (41), Shaun Murphy (40), Kyren Wilson (31), Luca Brecel (28), Ali Carter (43), Jack Lisowski (31), Robert Milkins (47), Stuart Bingham (46), Gary Wilson (37) and Ding Junhui (36).

The 2023 Snooker World Championship tournament runs from 15 April to 1 May 2023 at the Crucible Theatre in Sheffield, UK.

This year will be the 47th consecutive year the event is held at The Crucible - a venue that has hosted the tournament every year since 1977.

Sheffield City Council have confirmed the event will stay at the venue until at least 2027.
