All focus in the tennis world has shifted to Flushing Meadows and the US Open as the final Grand Slam of 2024 got underway on Monday. Two weeks of gripping action will see two men and two women fighting it out to be the new US Open champion.

09:00 CET - With the first day of the US Open done, we will have a new Tennis Tracker going for the start of day two. Play begins on both sides from 17:00 CET.

06:25 CET - The opening day of the women's action, and indeed the whole US Open, has just wrapped up with second seed Aryna Sabalenka (26) defeating qualifier Priscilla Hon (26) 6-3, 6-3 to advance.

In the overnight women's action, Madison Keys (29), Barbora Krejcikova (28), Emma Navarro (23) and Victoria Azarenka (35) all won to progress with the biggest shock being Magda Linette's (32) 6-4, 6-3 loss to teenaged wild card Iva Jovic (16).

06:15 CET - And we are back with you! In the overnight US Open action, defending champion Novak Djokovic (37) has just eased past Radu Albot (34) 6-2, 6-2, 6-4 to progress to the second round but he will not be joined by 15th seed Holger Rune (21), who was knocked out by Brandon Nakashima (23) 6-2, 6-2, 6-4

Elsewhere on the men's side, Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (25) has also been bundled out, losing 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, 6-3 to Rinky Hijikata (23). American Frances Tiafoe (26) advanced with a 6-4, 6-3, 4-6, 7-5 win over compatriot Aleksandar Kovacevic (25).

23:59 CET - Argentine Francisco Cerundolo (26) has booked his place in the next round with a 5-7, 6-4, 6-4, 6-2 win over Sebastian Ofner (28).

23:40 CET - Czech player Jiri Lehecka (22) is through at Flushing Meadows. He was leading 1-6, 6-4, 6-3, 3-0 before his opponent Marton Fucsovics (32) was forced to retire.

23:05 CET - American Peyton Stearns (22) has made the dream start to her home tournament with a 6-1 7-5 win over Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko (35).

And another American in Madison Keys (29) has moments ago booked her place in the second round with a 6-4, 6-1 win over Katerina Siniakova (28)

22:30 CET - Andrey Rublev (26) has safely booked his place in the next round with a straight sets 6-3, 7-6 (7-3), 7-5 win over Seyboth Wild (24).

22:00 CET - Over on the men's side Taylor Fritz (26) has made the perfect start to his debut US Open with a 7-5, 6-1, 6-1 to win against Argentine Camilo Carabelli (25).

21:45 CET - US Open holder Coco Gauff (20) has made no mistake in her opening round match and was in no mood to mess around. She won 6-2, 6-0 against Varvara Gracheva (24) to progress.

On this frantic opening day, several other women have won in the last few minutes including Anhelina Kalinina (27), Greet Minnen (27) and Paula Badosa (26).

21:11 CET - Australia's Alexei Popyrin (25) has beaten Soonwoo Kwon (26) 7-5, 6-2, 6-3 and Alexander Bublik (27) crashes out in a five-set thriller against Juncheng Shang (19), Shang won 6-4, 3-6, 5-7, 6-3, 6-4.

21:05 CET - World number eight Casper Ruud (25) was in no mood to mess around in his first round match as he cruised to a 7-6 (7-2, 6-2, 6-2 win against Yunchaokete Bu (22).

21:00 CET - Powerfull server Matteo Berrettini (28) has secured his place in the next round wih a 7-6 (7-2), 6-2, 6-3 victory over Albert Ramos-Vinolas (36).

20:45 CET - Veteran Roberto Bautista-Agut (36) has booked his place in the second round with a straight sets 7-5, 7-6 (7-3) 7-6 (7-5) win against Luca Nardi (21).

20:20 CET - Alexander Zverev (27) has survived a slight scare against fellow German Maximilian Marterer (29) to book his place in the next round. Zverev won 6-2, 6-7 (5-7), 6-3, 6-2.

20:15 CET - World number 13 and last year's US Open semi-finalist Ben Shelton (21) has beaten former US Open winner Dominic Thiem (30) in straight sets 6-4, 6-2, 6-2.

19:55 CET - Over on the men's side, 17th seed Ugo Humbert (26) becomes the first male player to secure his place in the second round with a convincing 6-3, 6-4, 6-4 win against Brazil's Thiago Monteiro (30).

19:50 CET - Olympic gold medalist Zheng Qinwen (21) has survived a valiant effort from American Amanda Anisimova (22) to win 4-6, 6-4, 6-2.

19:30 CET - Elina Svitolina (29) has avoided a similar fate to Sakkari despite losing the first set to Argentina's Maria Carle (24). The Ukranian responded well and won in three sets 3-6, 6-3, 6-4.

Other players to book their place in the second round on the women's side are talented Russian Erika Andreeva (20), Donna Vekic (28) and Diane Parry (21).

18:25 CET - The US Open has only just begun and the first seed has fallen with Maria Sakkari (29) retiring from her opening-round match against Wang Yafan (30) a set down.

Elsewhere, 12th seed Daria Kasatkina (27) is through to the second round after beating Jaqueline Cristian (26) 6-4, 6-4.

17:05 CET - Play is just starting to get underway around the courts at the US Open with Alexander Zverev (27) and Maria Sakkari (29) both in action in the first set of matches.

15:50 CET - We are a little over an hour from the first matches of the 2024 US Open. To get into the swing of things, take a look at the day's top three matches here. Defending champions Novak Djokovic (37) and Coco Gauff (20) are both in action on day one!

13:00 CET - Hello and welcome to day one of the US Open! It is an action-packed first day which will see some of the world's best ATP and WTA players in action.

Number nine seed Maria Sakkari (29) is one of the players first up this evening at 17:00 CET as she plays her first match since losing in the third round of the Paris Olympics last month. The Greek star takes on China's Yafan Wang (30) in what should be a straightforward opening-round win. 

Over on the men's side, world number four and the 2020 US Open finalist Alexander Zverev (27) is also in action at 17:00 CET as he faces fellow German Maximilian Marterer (29) after his original opponent Emil Ruusuvuori (25) withdrew through injury.

And one to look out for later this evening as the defending champion Coco Gauff (20) begins her title defence against France's Varvara Gracheva (24) in what should be a relatively straightforward first-round match.
