The second week of the Italian Open in Rome is getting underway today, and Carlos Alcaraz (20), Iga Swiatek (21) and Stefanos Tsitsipas (24) will be taking to the court along with numerous other big names.

22:15 CET - After a prolonged rain delay in Rome, orgainisers have decided to end today's play for the day. Those matches that were delayed will be rescheduled for tomorrow.

18:45 CET - World number 20 Jelena Ostapenko (25) has beaten world number nine Daria Kasatkina (26) in two hours, winning 6-4, 4-6, 6-0.

17:40 CET - The fourth Spaniard of the day has been knocked out, with Daniil Medvedev (27) beating Bernade Zapata Mirallas (26) 3-6, 6-1, 6-3.

17:05 CET - No problems for Elena Rybakina (23) in Rome as the world number six has cruised past Marketa Vondrousova (23) 6-3, 6-3.

15:54 CET - With Rome reeling after Carlos Alcaraz's shock defeat, Andrey Rublev (25) has dodged his banana skin by beating Alejandro Davidovich Fokina (23) 7-6, 6-3.

Elsewhere, Veronika Kudermetova (26) has defeated Marie Bouzkova (24) 6-2, 6-2.

15:23 CET - There's been a massive upset in Rome, with world number one Carlos Alcaraz (20) - who was on a 12-match winning streak which saw him lift the titles in Barcelona and Madrid - losing 6-3, 7-6 to qualifier Fabian Marozsan (23), who's playing in an ATP tournament for the first time ever.

14:51 CET - Beatriz Haddad Maia (26) has defeated Camila Osorio (21) in a South American duel in Rome, with the Brazilian winning in straight sets 6-3, 6-3.

13:43 CET - Our first results from the second week of action in Rome with Yannick Hanfmann (31) beating Marco Cecchinato (30) 6-4, 4-6, 6-3, whilst Borna Coric (26) saw off Roberto Carballes Baena (30) 7-6, 6-1.

Elsewhere in the women's draw, Anhelina Kalinina (26) battled back to defeat Madison Keys (28) 2-6, 6-2, 6-4 and in an all Chinese encounter Qinwen Zheng (20) was on top against Xiyu Wang (22) in a 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 scoreline.

09:55 CET - Iga Swiatek (21), who will later today face Donna Vekic (26), has enjoyed the majority of her success on clay, winning last year's French Open and the last two Italian Opens, but she wants to become comfortable on all surfaces rather than be a specialist on one.

"I think if you want to be the best in tennis, you have to play well on all these surfaces," she stated.

08:40 CET - Novak Djokovic (35) yesterday overcame Grigor Dimitrov (33) in three sets, and spoke afterwards of how the fellow members of the Big Four have helped him prevail in such tight clashes. 

"I got stronger because of the rivalries, particularly with Federer, Nadal and Murray," he said.
